  • President's Report 2019

    By Narelle Zillmann, November 2019

2019 another successful season at Western Districts Netball Association for the Club. The Club’s success is due to our volunteers. Our committee members and their families are the backbone of our Club and I cannot thank them enough for their efforts in 2019. Organising registrations and payments, coaches, umpires, fundraising events, merchandise, our social media pages, our presentation day and evenings, organising volunteers, development programs, attending meetings and dealing with enquiries are just some of the tasks our committee complete throughout the season. I’d also like to thank our coaches and umpires who put their hand up to support our players and of course our families, friends and players who participated in the 2019 season. Players This year St Joseph’s fielded 22 teams – three more teams than in 2018. For the first time in many years we fielded a Senior Team in Senior Division 4. This team was made up of mums of daughters from our club with a few players who wanted to play the game for enjoyment. Of course, they were a very competitive team and came Runners Up in their division. Joeys fielded 15 competitive teams - 13 teams through to semi or preliminary finals and 9 teams through to the grand final. Four teams came away with the premiership: • 12 Div 5 • 13 Div 2 • 16-18 Div 1 • A1 Our players have been successful at the representative level with players being selected in Western Districts teams, Schoolgirls – primary and high school - Met West and Met East, Qld Premier League for the Region, Sapphires Series, Sapphires and Ruby Series - Jets and Sunshine Coast Storm and Northern Territory Storm. Coaches The Club has had several new coaches join the ranks this year. Brian Nolan, Sarah Donald, Abi White, Jess Finney, Anita Williamson. We had coaches who completed further professional development achieving a higher coaching accreditation which assists in the development of our up and coming coaches. Many club coaches also coach representative teams at the Association level, School Representative Level, the Region, the Sapphire Series and Queensland Fusion. We also have club members who are managers for these representative teams– Northern Territory Storm, Ruby Series – Jets, QPL.   Umpires The Club has some very talented umpires. Our Club umpires have umpired for QPL, Sapphires and Ruby Series, Qld State Age, Qld and Australian School Girls and been recognised by attaining their national badges. Summary When we reflect upon the season we should be proud of what has been achieved. Our team numbers have grown, we have run a development program post-season and applied for a grant for next season. I often hear our Club described as “a family club”, “a club that cares for its members”. If we can continue with these values I am certain St Joseph’s will be around for a long time. See you in 2020 for another year of our favourite sport netball!
